Advice on new ideas 2007/11/06 17:26
Ok, I'm sure you guys have all heard thsi before, but I have an idea ("one sheet" and pitch ready) for a show that would be great for ABC, in the vein of Extreme Makover Home Edition, Nanny 911 etc, so not a competition based show and certainly not "mean". It has heart, it's interesting and everyone can relate, god help us, its even franchisable! ; ) What do I do now? I'm trying to find out who the reality tv agents and managers are. All of my contacts are film related. Anyone have any advice?

Let me also add a couple of questions, it would be helpful to know who the mid level reality tv agents are. Also, is it better to package the idea, attach celebs etc? Anyone have thoughts on this?

I would definitely try to attach a celeb. Not too familiar on the agent front. Good Luck!

Hi there! I'm out with a show right now. There's so many ways to approach it. I'm learning that reality treatments are good to have, but so many execs' attention spans are dwindling like the rest of ours. If there is any way for you to cut a short pilot presentation, do it. It will be a great tool for getting an agent/manager and getting in the room with an exec.

Also consider partnering up with a reputable production company. I stress reputable, so that you are not phased out of your project. This partnership could get you meetings quicker. Of course you can go it alone first and if it's not happening, go the partner route. I am happy I did.

As for agents, Gersh and ICM have great reality /alternative programming divisions. Don't leave out managers. They're great to have on your side. Not sure about mid-level agencies.

Good luck to you!

Best,
Courtney
